So, I took Dr. Vaneman's advice and decided to look into this Andy Prince of Persian Pop. And WOW. I found a lot. First off, his name is Andranik Madadian. He's from Iran and traveled to Los Angeles 40 years ago to preform rock music. Since then he has earned a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.....that is awesome.
Living in Iran and trying to become a successful musician was really tough for his family at first. His dad had to take out a loan to pay for Andy's first guitar this being at the time that the family didn't even have running water. I think this puts into perspective how important music can play in a persons life and how much parents have faith in their children's talents. Also, at the time in Iran, the type of music that Andy wanted to play was not allowed. In this short documentary, he mentioned that they would sneak his recordings into Iran just so they could hear his music. People would also buy a ticket with the little money they had just to see him preform somewhere else!
For my next topic, I wanted to continue to look at the people and research more about the Hajj. For the year of 2020, the Hajj will begin the evening of July 28th, and end August 2nd. The media expects for over 2.5 Million people to attend!
To attend the Hajj, however, one must complete 10 rituals before and during the Hajj. Below are the 10 steps! Step 2 and 3 are based on days while the other steps are based on completing certain task or visiting sacred places.
The most current musician I found was A. R. Rahman! He is a singer, composer, and music producer. He is known for his blend of electronic music with classical Indian music! That is so neat! This is from his Biography and it just shows the amount of talent this man has! "He has won two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South in addition to numerous other awards and nominations." I'm so glad you looked deeper into Andy Prince and found all of this cool information out. The video was very informative. I did not know anything about the Hajj and the rituals that went along with it, very fascinating. The video you left of A. R Rahman was stunning!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that Andy's father took out a loan to pay for Andy's guitar; that is really sweet of him. Also, I knew that a lot of people went to Mecca every year, but to see pictures of it really puts it into perspective and I think it is amazing that all of these people come together in the name of their religion.

ReplyDeleteIt is unreal how many people travel to Mecca. It makes you wonder how that many people can be in one place at one time. I liked the music on the video for A R Rahman at Berklee College of Music that had a sparkling "BLUE" guitar.
ReplyDeleteIm glad you mentioned Andranik Madadian, I was interested in learning more about him and i think you did a good job at telling me about him. Its crazy how much of an impact he has made and coming such a long way that is amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing the sacrifices families will do fo their children so they can pursue their dreams. I really appreciate the portion in which you speak about the Hajj. I remember learning about it in my AP World History class in high school but I did not know the specifics. So thank you for educating me more about it.
ReplyDeleteAndy Prince was super cool to read about. Anybody with that long of a career, and an amazing one at that, deserves some props. A. R . Rahman was interesting to read about as he is a man of many talents and awards.
ReplyDeleteThis is all interesting, Kathleen. I'm glad you followed up on Andy Price! And I found the last video really interesting--I was just at Berklee for a conference this past summer. They do really, really interesting stuff up there.
